Cheyenne Regional Introduces CORI Surgical System for Knee Replacements
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Knee replacement surgeries are projected to increase 180% in the U.S. by 2030, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. In response, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has added the CORI Surgical System to expand access to robotics-assisted knee replacement for local patients.
Many patients are still unaware of robotics-assisted procedures and recent advances in orthopedics, physicians say. “I tell the majority of my patients to forget everything they thought they knew about knee surgery,” said Dr. Shannon, an orthopedic surgeon with Cheyenne Regional’s Orthopedics and Surgical Specialists Clinic. “Within the last few years, the advancements in robotics-assisted knee surgery alone have been a game changer for my patients.”
A recent survey by global implant maker Smith+Nephew and Kantar found that procedure fears and recovery time are patients’ biggest concerns, yet nearly all expressed interest in discussing robotics-assisted knee surgery with their physician.
Potential benefits of robotics-assisted knee replacement using the CORI Surgical System, combined with features of Smith+Nephew’s implant portfolio, include:
Quicker, smoother recovery.
Faster return of function and earlier discharge home.
A tailored plan: Surgeons use 3D digital modeling to create a plan customized to each patient’s anatomy, allowing more accurate placement than traditional knee replacement.
A more natural fit: Patients may retain more natural bone and ligaments, including the anterior cruciate ligament, which can help preserve a natural step.
Broader implant options: Surgeons can choose from a wide selection of implants to closely match a patient’s knee.
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has upgraded its robotics-assisted knee surgery offerings to include the CORI Surgical System.
