Yoga and Balance
During treatment for cancer, many patients find that the discomfort and fatigue caused by chemotherapy and radiation can be somewhat debilitating. Regular exercise has been shown to increase the body’s defenses and decrease fatigue. Yoga can help to provide cancer patients with a balanced form of whole-body exercise. It strengthens the body while boosting the immune system, and produces an overall sense of well-being. Yoga can also assist patients who have had surgery related to cancer, to restore mobility and flexibility. Patients often find that they’re able to achieve a sense of calmness while practicing yoga, that helps with the stress of a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Cheyenne Regional has a yoga instructor who has been trained specifically to guide cancer patients.
