Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Expands Treatment Options for Adolescents With FDA Cleared TMS Therapy

March 11, 2026 – Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is expanding access to behavioral health care with the addition of NeuroStar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy, recently cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for adolescents ages 15 to 21 with major depressive disorder.

Major depression is one of the most common behavioral health conditions in the United States and can interfere with school, relationships and everyday activities. The condition affects how neurotransmitters, chemicals produced by brain cells, communicate with regions of the brain that regulate mood. When neurotransmitters are depleted or not functioning properly, the brain’s mood regulation system can be disrupted.

While medication can help increase neurotransmitter activity, it does not work for everyone and may cause unwanted side effects. TMS therapy offers a noninvasive, medication free alternative that uses targeted electromagnetic stimulation to activate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.

NeuroStar TMS therapy uses a small coil placed against the scalp to deliver magnetic pulses to a specific region of the brain. An initial session determines the precise treatment location and pulse strength for each patient. Treatment sessions last 18 to 30 minutes and are typically administered five days a week for four to six weeks. Patients remain awake during treatment and can return to normal daily activities immediately after each session.

The FDA cleared NeuroStar TMS for adolescents in March 2024 based on clinical data demonstrating significant improvement in depression symptoms. The therapy is generally well tolerated, with the most common side effect being mild, temporary scalp discomfort.

Access to specialized adolescent behavioral health services remains limited across Wyoming. By offering TMS therapy locally in Cheyenne, CRMC is helping reduce barriers to advanced care and providing families with more options close to home.

Through continued investment in innovative, evidence-based services, CRMC remains committed to its mission to inspire great health by supporting the mental and emotional well-being of the region’s youth. As CRMC continues to expand access to advanced behavioral health care, the organization reinforces its dedication to strengthening the health of the communities it serves.
