Medically Supervised Weight Loss
Our medical weight loss program, or medically supervised weight loss, provides one-on-one treatment options that are led by our program-specific nurse practitioner. The goal is to provide patients with the tools and information they need to lose weight and keep it off. Medically supervised weight loss may include prescription weight loss medications, visits with a registered dietician, assessment by a behavioral health specialist and weight loss surgery.
Medically supervised weight loss may be required by your insurance company before weight loss surgery. It may be an effective alternative to surgery, or it may be prescribed for post-surgical patients who are struggling with weight regain. Our focus on medical weight loss is helping our patients make nutritional and lifestyle changes to improve their health and achieve lasting weight loss.
New patient consultations include:
- A detailed medical evaluation
- Lifestyle review
- Physical exam
- Weight history (including past weight-loss attempts)
For many people, lifestyle changes in combination with weight loss medications can be very effective in weight management. Candidates for prescription weight loss medications must have a BMI of 27 (overweight) with at least one weight-related illness or a BMI of 30 with or without weight-related illnesses.
