All media interviews at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center or Cheyenne Regional Medical Group must be arranged or approved by our Marketing & Communications Department.

Visiting Our Campuses

Journalists and photographers must be escorted by a Marketing & Communications team member during any on-site visit to ensure compliance with HIPAA and to protect patient privacy.

We’ll help:

  • Coordinate interviews and photo/b-roll shoots
  • Identify appropriate staff or locations for your story
  • Navigate our campus

Requesting an Interview

  • Business hours: Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
  • After hours: Call our operator at (307) 634-2273 to reach a communications team member.

Patient Privacy and HIPAA

  • We are legally required to protect patient privacy under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

What We Can Share (Only with Full Name Provided)

  • One-word condition (see below)
  • Confirmation of patient presence (unless they opt out)

What We Cannot Share

  • Specific hospital location (e.g., ICU)
  • Info about anonymous patients
  • Presence or condition of minors without guardian consent
  • Details for protective services cases or patients who opt out
  • Any information about deceased patients, unless required by law

One-Word Patient Conditions

  • Undetermined – Patient is being assessed
  • Good – Vital signs stable; comfortable
  • Fair – Stable, may be uncomfortable
  • Serious – Vital signs may be unstable
  • Critical – Vital signs unstable, possibly unconscious
  • Treated and Released – Treated but not admitted
  • Stable –Not a condition; not used

Crisis or Disaster Response

In a community or hospital crisis:

  • General stats may be shared (e.g., number of patients, age range)
  • Media will be escorted to a designated area for updates
  • Patient and staff safety remains our top priority

Special Situations

  • Patient-Initiated Interviews: If a patient contacts you directly, please notify Marketing & Communications before arriving.
  • Withheld Information: Patients may request complete privacy—we are legally obligated to honor that request.
  • Protective Cases: No information will be released for child or adult protective services patients.
