Cheyenne Regional is the first hospital in the region to provide TomoTherapy, one of the world’s most advanced radiation treatment systems for treating cancerous tumors.

TomoTherapy allows us to modify the shape and intensity of the radiation in order to target the tumor more effectively. For patients, the process is smooth, easy and comfortable. With this leading technology, we can treat cancer better and faster than before.

Doctors have been using radiation therapy to treat cancer for decades. Yet, the challenge using radiation therapy is in assuring that the radiation beam reaches only the tumor when giving high doses of radiation, while sparing the healthy tissue surrounding it.

TomoTherapy captures 3D CT images of the treatment area and uses these 3D images to aim the treatment with accuracy and precision. It also uses the CT scanner design to deliver radiation from all angles around the patient. With more beam angles during the treatment, the better the procedure can shape the radiation dose around the tumor and away from normal tissues.
