Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Cheyenne Regional (CRMC) offers a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) course in accordance to the American Academy of Pediatrics and AHA requirements. This course provides students with either an initial certification or a re-certification, and the course requirements are the same for both. The NRP course teaches an evidence-based approach for care of the newborn at birth, and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach that includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focuses on critical leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Who should take this course?
This course is designed for individuals who are responsible for attending deliveries. Students include registered nurses, medics, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants, pharmacists and physicians.

  • If you are a non-employee, the course fee is $110.

Follow the steps below to enroll in this course.

  • CRMC employee: Please register in your HealthStream account.
  • Non-employees: Please contact Paula Pyc (at (307) 996-4736 or to register.
  • The registration freeze for this course is two weeks prior to the course date.
  • After you register for the course, you will receive an email 30 days prior to the start-date of your course. This email will contain vital information about how you’ll need to prepare and what you should expect during the course. Please make sure to check your email.

Certification Period
Your NRP certification is valid for two years, and will expire two years from the first day of the month of completion.

NRP Course Completion Steps

  • If you’re a CRMC employee, log into HealthStream and enroll in the course titled, “Neonatal Resuscitation Program.”
  • Part 1: Required Pre-Course Work
    • This course requires a course manual.
      • Please check with Jonna Irwin about availability of the course manual (at (307) 996-4742 or
      • Course manuals can be checked out (on loan) through the 5th floor Unit Secretary. The Unit Secretary window is located to the right when you step off of the 5th floor elevator by the Mother/Baby unit.
      • Course manuals must be returned once your course is completed.
      • Participants who do not return course manuals within 2 weeks of the course completion date, are subject to a late fee (up to the full price of the course manual).
    • Complete the online NRP Exam (Lessons 1 – 9)
      • In your HealthStream account under your ‘My Learning’ tab, click the ‘NRP Online Examination, 6th Edition (Lessons 1-9 required)’ link.
      • Complete all nine lessons.
      • You may use your course manual during the exam (and there is no time limit).
      • Pay close attention to the blocked text in your course manual.
      • Print proof of your successful exam completion and bring it to class with you.
      • You are only allowed 2 failed attempts on the exam.
        • What if I fail more than twice?
          • Use these instructions ONLY if you have failed Lessons 1 – 9 more than twice.
          • You will need to pay $23.50 (with a card) in order to access Lessons 1 – 9 again.
          • Go online to, and select ‘6th Edition NRP Online Exam.’
          • Click ‘First Time Students Click Here To Register.’
          • Go to the ‘My Learning’ tab, and then select ‘NRP Online Examination, 6th Edition.’
          • Click on the NRP course link, click ‘Enroll in the Course,’ and then begin.
          • Print proof of your successful exam completion and bring it to class with you.
  • Part 2: Live Course
    • Skills Exam Check-off
      • Bring your proof of completion with you to class. (You will not be allowed to attend class without proof of completion.)
      • Wear comfortable, work-appropriate clothing.

Certification Card
Certification cards may take up to 30 days to arrive. Upon arrival, certification cards will be scanned and uploaded into HealthStream, and then delivered to participants’ managers. A scanned copy of your certification card will be viewable/printable in HealthStream by managers with administrator access, beneath the ‘Documents’ tab.
