November 11, 2015—Meet Kathy and Hillary. They both work in the Marketing & Communications (M & C) department. Kathy is Cheyenne Regional’s Public Information Officer and Hillary is the Marketing & Communications Manager / Webmaster. Featuring these two this week is really exciting because they’re both such an integral part of this healthcare system. They’re incredibly passionate about what they do and they’re committed to excellence in every area of their work. Beyond being just an important part of the system as a whole, they add a whole lot of fun to the M & C department on a daily basis!
“I like to write. I like to communicate in writing, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy the job itself. And as a whole, I also enjoy working with the media. I know the media can get a bad rap sometimes, but the media work that we do here is important. I respect our organization because we’re transparent. We’re a community hospital and our community knows a lot about us. But as a community hospital, that really is important so that they can have a say and also know that they do have a say.
When I first started, I hadn’t worked in a healthcare system before. This department was working on starting a new community-wide newsletter and there were some other writing projects being started up, which is why I was initially hired. So that was exciting. I’ve been here for about nine and a half years, now. I like and respect the system. This is our community hospital. This is where my family comes for care. I want us to be great and I want us to provide great care. The people I know and love come here, so that’s critically important for me. Through my writing, I hope to communicate many of the good things that we’re doing. We need to continue to get the word out.
This is one of the best teams we’ve ever had working together in this department. It’s a very experienced, talented, comfortable team to work with, and that’s huge!”
“I’m going to bring this back to my childhood. Growing up, I always drew and colored and created things (very artsy-fartsy-like!), and to be able to go to college and do the same thing—to become an adult and still draw and create inspirations for a living—helps motivate me. I don’t think I could do a left-brain job for a living, so it’s been a good opportunity for me to do what I love from the day I was born into adulthood.
When I was first given the opportunity to work here, I was doing freelance work. The people I met, I enjoyed, and I thought it would be a good change for me. I also had the thought that I’d like to help make Cheyenne Regional have a better presence in the community, because I thought that was something that was lacking. And this hospital really is great, so being able to put my art / design / web background into showing the people in our community how great the hospital is, is important for me. That’s why I work here. I enjoy working here because of the people I’ve met and gotten to know, and the team I currently work with in my department. Everybody on our team is passionate. We’re all passionate about our expertise—we’re all professionals in our occupation and that’s important.”
